New Years Resolution, 2008 Roundup

Posted December 31st, 2008. Filed under Family

This year was a year of very high ups and extremely low downs for me. It started with me purchasing a ticket to Japan early in January out of pure randomness. I was fed up with working for the mortgage company that I was working for and decided I needed a vacation. I also decided to start a blog around that time to discuss about my trip and what not, but eventually just became my personal blog instead. I managed to get my passport in time, and took off overseas. April would be the highest part of 2008 for me since it was when I was in Japan. Everything goes down hill after that. Unemployed and living off my savings until October, I went through some realizations of myself and life. Come mid July we were forced to move out, and were left homeless. During that time I learned how such simple things as acts of kindness mean to people in need. A thing a lot of people take for granted. My aunt gave us the floor of her living room to sleep in, which meant more than everything for me at the moment being in need of just somewhere to sleep. This year has given me some very hard lessons in life.

Now that I got that out of my system here are my resolutions for the coming year:

  • Get a Car – This is pretty straightforward, although it does contradict with being more green. Working until late night in an unsafe neighborhood makes it a little unsafe to ride a bike or walk past midnight.
  • Get a little more united with the family – My family is enormous on both sides my mom and dad’s. Just imagine how many cousins I have if there are about 10 aunts and uncles in each side. Most of which I have never met before.
  • Find a better job – I’m pretty comfortable with my current job but as always we should never settle for something like this. I’m going to work on improving all my skills to obtain a higher paying job.
  • Become more independent and move out – It’s about time. I’m now 25, and although my parents have depended on my income it is also time for them to become more independent of me.
  • Do more exercise – This is everyone’s resolution, or for the most part everyone’s goal. In the past few months I have already taken the initiative and at least walk a mile daily.
  • Eat Healthier – I’ve been jumping back and forth from being a vegetarian and really feel the benefits. It’s time for me to finally take the leap and not sit on both sides of the fence.
  • Improve my reading and writing skills – Whenever I write a blog post or read someone else’s blog I tend to “halfass” things. It is also overall a skill to always improve on.
  • Read or listen to at minimum a book a month – This goes along with the previous resolution, but also individually as I own many books. Most of which have not been read. This is also good brain food.
  • Work on my Japanese – Best way to expand yourself is by learning another language. I already know and understand less than a Japanese preschooler and I plan on just developing my knowledge of the language.
  • Be more “green” and environmentally clean – I feel like this year was a good environmental awareness year. Seeing that the media has been putting their part as well as the general population. I plan on adding more of my pebble in the pond next year.
  • Work on my Creativity – A lot of people lose a large part of their creativity when they reach their teens. Mainly due to the amount of responsibility one begins to inherit and real world shock. I can admit that stress and just work has taken a lot of time from me to really work on this. I own a sketch book and a few other empty journal type notebooks. I plan on filling them with sketches, haikus, poems, or even short stories.

I will keep an eye on this post everyday and make sure I do my best at maintaining and fulfilling these goals. Happy New Years to everyone and wish everyone good health and prosperity in 2009.
