More Books on Tape, Soul of the Fire

I’m currently working the second shift with five other people. It gets really quiet and lonely at work, so I’ve been carrying my ipod around with me, and sneaking it in once all management is gone. Instead of listening to music I’ve been going through Soul of the Fire. While I’m at home though I usually pick up the book and read because I can go through at a much faster pace than that of an audio book can. I finished through Temple of the Winds and I’m now on Terry Goodkind’s 5th installment of the Sword of Truth series. I’m pretty impressed by the story line so far though I am getting  a little tired of the battle against the “Dreamwalker,” that has stretched on over 3 book so far.

Seeing that I’ve been pretty impressed with the way some of the voices are acted out I have been considering on reactivating my Audible account, and picking up the one credit a month plan.

Books on Tape, Temple of Winds

Crazy as it sounds I love listening to books on tape. During my commute to and from work, though a bit short, I listen to books on tape on my iPod. Seeing that Legend of the Seeker recently premiered I jumped back into the Seeker of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, and decided on taking off from book four Temple of Winds. Crazily enough I even listen to that while im on the computer browsing the web or even playing WoW on my lowly level Mage or Paladin. In any case I’m not good at story synopsis or what not so you can always jump into the authors page and take a peak at the the storyline.

Style: In terms of the television series I must state that it really has not put me in awe or amazed me in any way. It was sort of what I expected out of Hollywood and only wish the author and the series the best of luck and success. I personally didn’t like it mainly due to the extreme changes in the storyline and the poor production, and acting of the show. Though I’ll admittedly stick around to watch a couple of other episodes I doubt I’ll be tuned for the entire season. It almost reminds me of Xena Warrior Princess.

Spanish Readings

Lately I’ve been trying to get back in touch with my spanish reading skills, and picked up a book that my aunt passed on to me to read. So far I have not been able to put this book down. The title of the book in literal translation is The Island of Lonely Men in spanish its La Isla De Los Hombres Solos, by José León Sánchez. I am so far very impressed by his simple use of localized vocabulary from the region where the story takes place in. As far as I’ve read the plot is about a young couple in a small town in Costa Rica who is constantly harassed by the local town Sheriff. The story goes as bad as the young man losing his wife and child in a storm and being accused of murdering his own family by the local authority and having him get locked up for life. Though it sounds simple the actual story has a very deep and sometimes stressful story line for the reader due to the fact that the bad guy has his way through. I honestly enjoy reading this book very much and can’t wait to get my paws deeper into this story as the story just worsens for the main character.

What if issue 59

I received a gift from my brother the other day I’m guessing a belated birthday gift. It wasn’t an ordinary gift either. He gave me  a copy of the What If series from Marvel Comics. I remember back in 1994 when my brother and I had gone on a crazy hunt for this comic book and couldn’t find it anywhere. We literally searched almost every comic book shop in the San Fernando area, and it turned out that the issue had no been released yet. I had completely forgot about it until now.

The story is about Wolverine and what it would have been like if he led Alpha Flight. It sort of touches on the Jean Grey and Phoenix era, but it is just a what if situation. Looking back at how crazy I was over finding this comic book I must say that thanks to my brother I finally got it.

Reading Material

I have been looking around the web to see if I can buy a book or two to read while I’m at work or out and about, so I got a few recommendations from a couple of people who have backpacked Japan. So far here’s what I purchased from Amazon; Lonely Planet Japan, Lonely Planet Tokyo Encounter, Japanese: Lonely Planet Phrase Book, and Japan Bilingual Map. All were highly recommended with the exception of the phrase book, there were a few people who just seem to disagree with it. I guess we’ll find out once I receive it.

I’m also hoping I find a place that can perform a tea ceremony (in English if possible) that isn’t as costly as what I’ve found so far. I looked at some online resources and most tend to be attached with some kind of tour, or event that you can pay for but are too costly in my opinion.
