Fed up with 3ix and their servers that kept dropping offline all the time I decided to pull the plug on them. On December 1st I logged on to my site only to find out that it had randomly eating up all the bandwidth for that month. I had to temporarily move my site to Microsoft’s Live Spaces services. I chose Live Spaces at the time because I was experimenting with the Skydrive services and the fact that they had upgraded it to 25gigs. Then yesterday Lifehacker posted an amazing deal with Dreamhost, a hosting service that I have used in the past with old projects that I’ve worked with. It only took a couple of minutes to get a WordPress backup and reinstall it on a fresh install on the new host. Personally I think that is the best way to move your WordPress site from one host to another.
It’s sad to read the tweet made by Kevin Rose of his side project Pownce shutting down. It was personally a tweaked out version of twitter yet had less hope due to the extreme popularity of twitter. I’m glad to see that they have found their way into Six Apart and only hope for more innovative and stylistic apps to come. Good luck to everyone from the Pownce team.
I just got the news that Mozilla has announced June 17th as the release of Firefox 3. Very excited to see the final product and I’m really looking forward to see them set a high bar on the Guinness World Record. Though I must say that Microsoft could have set it when they released Windows XP in terms of bootlegged downloads (drum joke sound in the background). Though I had a brief experience with beta release I loved every minute I had using it, with the exception that a lot of my favorite add-ons weren’t available at the time. All in all I’ll be adding 6 downloads to the record, my pebble in the pond, though I’m not sure if they will be counting multiple computers in the household.
